0Originally in the business of building motorcycle sidecars under the name Swallow Sidecar Company or S.S. Cars back in 1922, the company then transitioned into also developing passenger cars together with Standard Motor Co before changing their brand name to Jaguar Cars in 1945, since many of their models held that name. Today, the company is a British multinational car manufacturer for luxury vehicle brands under Jaguar Land Rover based in Whitley, Coventry, England and since 2008, owned by the Indian company Tata Motors.
Jaguar holds a close relationship with the British royalty. In May 2010, an XJ was delivered to the then British Prime Minister, one of the many cars they have manufactured in recent years. Furthermore, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles have also issued royalty warrants with the company, giving them the responsibility of supplying the royal family with automobiles.
Jaguar is also famous in the realm of Motorsports. Their models such as XK120, which was the fastest car production back in 1949, and XJ220, the world’s fastest production car in 1992, have both made names in the field of sports. XJ220 is a notable name in the list of Jaguar’s sports cars. The company’s success in sports car racing could be seen especially in the Le Mans 24 Hours, the world’s oldest sports car race and one of the most prestigious car races in the world.
