Along with Jaguar, Land Rover is also owned by the Jaguar Land Rover, a British multinational automobile manufacturer, the company began its steps with a design primarily to be used on a farm, perhaps of the influence from the Jeep, of Maurice Wilks, chief designer at the Rover Company, together with his brother Spencer, the managing director of Rover. Over the years, Land Rover has developed plenty of four wheel drive vehicles such as the Defender, Discovery, Freelander, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. It has come to be regarded as a British icon, especially after the royal warrant granted by King George VI back in 1951.

Because of its origins, Land Rover was originally intended for farm machinery with power take-off being the centre of its concept from 1948. Today, the marque can be found in a variety of body styles, from pick-up trucks, station wagons, fire engines, ambulances, snow ploughs, and even to special builds such as amphibious vehicles and vehicles fixed with tracks.

Land Rover has also served in the military, particularly in the British Army and the Australian Army and has also competed in the Dakar Rally and the Macmillan 4×4 UK Challenge. The company is also known for its safety, with the Land Rover Defender ranking on the safest cars on British Roads based on the statistics of the UK Department of Transport. Land Rover has also extended its brand to bicycles, coffees, and pushchairs.
