0Dodge is a child of its parent company, Chrysler which is now formally known as FCA US LLC, based in Michigan. The company was founded by brothers Horace Elgin and John Francis Dodge in the late 1900’s and called the Dodge Brothers Company, originally a machine shop that supplied parts and assemblers in Detroit, only building automobiles in 1914 even before the Chrysler Corporation was founded. After the brothers’ death from influenza during the 1918 flue pandemic, the company was then sold to Dillon, Read & Co. in 1925 then to Chrysler in 1928.
Much of the company’s vehicles consisted of trucks and full-sized passenger cars during the 1970’s though now currently includes lower-priced variants of Chrysler-badged vehicles as well as performance cars. Dodge is now known in the muscle and sports vehicles market of the late 1960’s to the early 1970’s, a market that includes vehicles such as vans, pickup to heavy trucks, to sport utility vehicles.
Dodge endured the numerous changes in ownership and the financial crises its parent company also endured, including its temporary merging with Daimler-Benz AG, the bailout by the US government back in 2009, and the company’s merge with Fiat. Today, Dodge is available throughout the world across many different countries.
