0Saab started in Sweden in the year 1945, their first vehicle, the Saab 92 was introduced to the market in the year 1949. Their best-selling brand, Saab 900 was introduced after the company had merged with Scania-Vabis. In December 1949 Saab sold about 20,000 cars.
General Motors invested the sum of US$600 million which is worth 50% of the company’s value in 1989. Eleven years later, General Motors took over Saab Automobiles fully when they invested an addition of US$125million. This subjected Saab Automobiles to becoming a subsidiary of GM fully in the year 2000. The joint effort improved Saab cars to include more conventional door approach among others. In 2010, Spyker Cars, a Dutch Automobile company bought Saab Automobile from General Motors.
On the 13th of June 2012, National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) was announced the new owners of Saab Automobile. NEVS confirmed their interest not to continue using Saab brand name for cars produced under the company after leading series of successful productions since September 2013.
Top Saab cars include the Saab 9-3 compact executive car, Saab 9-3X, Saab 9-5, Saab 9-4X and Saab 9-3 SportCombi.
